I like to make things. As a wood sculptor, I am intrigued by the texture of wood, the grain of the wood, and all of the beautiful colors – soft ambers, stark reds, warm umbers – very much like an oil painter with a full palette of wonderful colors and textures readily at hand.
My sculptures are an exploration into the words of whimsy and humor. I truly love when people look at my work and smile. But, I do like precision in my art, especially in my furniture.
Wood carving invites the viewer to touch and feel the piece, to enjoy the smoothness of natural wood and to see what a wonderful medium wood can be. I enjoy doing commission work and that serves as a great motivator for me – to finish something when someone is waiting for it!
I have a wood stove that accepts my mistakes and provides warmth in return.
